About OpenData.Earth

OpenData.Earth is a non-profit catalogue of planet-scale data, headquartered in Switzerland and starting with geospatial layers. We aggregate, document, license and serve datasets that would otherwise be locked inside enterprise data warehouses, government extranets, or research-lab hard drives.

Geospatial data is our first domain because it is the most universally needed and the most often privatised. Land cover, elevation, administrative boundaries, climate variables, biodiversity records, infrastructure maps — the layers required to answer almost any planet-scale question.

Other types of data will follow: economic, demographic, public health, scientific. The catalogue grows as the community grows.

We charge nothing for the data. We ask only that users register before downloading, so we can keep in touch about updates and improvements, and that they credit OpenData.Earth under the CC BY 4.0 licence whenever they use it.
