Licence
All data published by OpenData.Earth is released under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence (CC BY 4.0). Access to the data is free of cost and granted on request.
What you can do
- Share — copy and redistribute the data in any medium or format.
- Adapt — remix, transform, and build upon the data, including for commercial use.
- Perpetual — once you have downloaded a dataset under this licence, your rights to use it never expire.
Under the following terms
- Attribution — you must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the licence, and indicate if changes were made. You may do so in any reasonable manner, but not in a way that suggests OpenData.Earth endorses you or your use.
- No additional restrictions — you may not apply legal terms or technological measures that legally restrict others from doing anything the licence permits.
How to attribute
Use this attribution string whenever you display, publish, or redistribute the data, unless a specific dataset's page recommends a different one:
Why request access?
The data itself is open. The request step exists so that we can keep the catalogue useful: we learn what people need, get in touch when an important dataset is updated, and answer questions about the data. It is not a paywall, and it is not a gatekeeping mechanism — we expect to approve every request that doesn't violate the terms.
